Cyclone Montha LIVE Updates: Heavy Rain Lashes Telangana, Red Alert Issued; 2 Dead in Andhra Pradesh

Cyclone Montha has moved westward and has caused a huge area to experience heavy rainfall and bad weather in Southern India, especially in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, announced that two people have died in the state due to the cyclone's effect, but at the same time thanks to the timely precautions, more deaths were prevented. He requested the officials to carry on with the relief and rehabilitation operations for another two days in order to support the families in need.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that Cyclone Montha reached the shore near Kakinada at about 7 PM on Tuesday, off the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam. The extremely violent cyclone came with winds of 90-100 kmph, and the gusts went up to 110 kmph, bringing heavy rain, power outages, and destruction of houses and infrastructure in the coastal regions.
⚠️ Red Alert in Telangana
Montha's fallout came all the way to Telangana, where a lot of rain has been measured in districts ranging from heavy to extremely heavy. The IMD has given a bright red alert for Warangal, Mahabubabad, and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, while Jangaon, Suryapet, Nalgonda, Siddipet, and Nagarkurnool have all welcomed rains of an intense nature.
A. Revanth Reddy, the Chief Minister, convened a high-level meeting with the top-notch officials to assess the situation and facilitate the quick response to flood and waterlogging issues. Hyderabad had a major problem with waterlogging in several low-lying areas, which resulted in traffic disruptions and the drainage system overflowing, thus adding to public annoyance.
🌊 Widespread Impact Across Southern India
The IMD reports that in addition to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, heavy rainfall forecasts have been made for Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. Life and local transport in Odisha were somewhat disrupted as 15 districts experienced high winds and heavy rains.
The scene at Visakhapatnam showed that the high tides were hitting the beach really hard, while the coastal towns of East Godavari and Srikakulam were seeing trees uprooted and houses damaged. The government has sent out disaster response teams and also set up temporary shelters for people who have been affected.
After flying over the disaster areas, Chief Minister Naidu said that by talking a helicopter ride he made sure that the best conditions for delivery of relief materials and medical aid are done in all affected regions. “If we keep up our work with the same enthusiasm for another two days, we can bring considerable relief to the people,” he said in an official announcement.
🚨 What’s Next
Heavy rain is on the cards for the next 24 hours in the remaining parts of Telangana and coastal Andhra Pradesh as Cyclone Montha is slowly losing its power while moving inland. The government advised the public to stay at home and avoid flood-prone areas.
